La epidemia de clera de 1890 aparecida en la Comunidad Valenciana tuvo su origen en un pueblo del Valle de Albaida denominado Puebla de Rugat, propagndose hasta llegar a Valencia capital. Fueron muchas las medidas tomadas por parte de las Autoridades para evitar su desarrollo, se crearon Comisiones Mdicas, Junta municipal y Provincial de Sanidad, se crearon postas sanitarias, se emitieron bandos, se acordonaron pueblos, se aislaban a familias enteras... pero a pesar de la actuacin tan enrgica para paliarla, la epidemia se propag por toda la provincia de Valencia, apenas afectando a la provincia de Alicante y Castelln. Hubo una gran psicosis colectiva de miedo huyendo la gente pero otra mucha se comport humanitariamente ayudando sin inters, fue enorme la labor que realizaron los establecimientos sanitarios creados para evitar los efectos de la epidemia, no obstante la repercusin socioeconmica fue catastrfica.
