Namibia, la independencia ms tarda de frica, vio el fin de la ocupacin sudafricana en 1989 y desde entonces ha constituido un ejemplo notable de proceso democratizador exitoso en la regin. El movimiento secesionista de la franja de Caprivi, sin embargo, supone uno de los grandes desafos a la legitimidad de Namibia como Estado nacional, con capacidad de reconocimiento de su vasta pluralidad tnica y su compleja historia colonial. El levantamiento armado en agosto de 1999 (si bien rpidamente sofocado por el gobierno namibio) conduce a las races histricas del movimiento ciudadano que lo sustenta, as como a la percepcin popular de descontento con el gobierno por parte de la ciudadana capriviana. El presente trabajo se aproxima a las diversas races histricas del movimiento independentista capriviano, enclavando su estudio en los debates africanos sobre las relaciones entre Estados nacionales, etnicidad y herencia poscolonial. Esta investigacin contribuye, pues, a esclarecer los fenmenos multicausales del secesionismo capriviano y aventura posibles respuestas, explicaciones y prospecciones para el presente y el futuro prximo de la franja de Caprivi en el Estado namibio.
