Despus de arduas negociaciones entre Mxico y la Unin Europea, se acord llegar a una etapa final con la firma del Tratado de Libre Comercio, la cual inici el 24 de Noviembre de 1999 y concluy el 1 de Julio del 2000, fecha en la que entr en vigor el Acuerdo. El principal objetivo de las negociaciones comerciales del Acuerdo de Asociacin Econmica, era crear una zona de libre comercio que cumpliera con las normas previstas por la Organizacin Mundial de Comercio (OMC) en relacin con las uniones aduaneras y la integracin econmica en materia de servicios. El TLCUE representaba una oportunidad importante para Mxico de atraer mayor inversin extranjera de los pases de la Unin Europea, a travs de alianzas estratgicas e intercambios tecnolgicos. Tambin representaba la oportunidad de colocar la cuantiosa produccin agrcola en los mercados europeos, siendo el principal productor de limn en el mundo. El presente libro muestra los resultados del xito o fracaso de este Acuerdo en la liberalizacin del mercado mundial del limn mediante un modelo de equilibrio espacial.
