Este libro es una investigacin antropolgica basada en la observacin directa de los hechos por parte del autor durante el ao en el que estuvo all, y en las conversaciones sostenidas con los afectados y los jaibans (mdicos tradicionales emberas), para indagar por el origen y la historia de aquel espritu que quiere llevarse a la gente para el mundo de abajo, un espacio mtico en el que habitan los antepasados de los humanos emberas. Un texto especial para quienes tengan inters en los sndromes culturales psiquitricos y para quienes deseen asomarse a las relaciones de conocimiento, amistad y enemistad, vida y muerte, que han tenido a lo largo de los tiempos en la cultura embera los humanos y los espritus (que no son aquellos que en la cultura occidental se conocen como fantasmas).
