Este breve y hermoso poema est considerado por muchos como el eplogo de Tolkien a su obra clsica El Seor de los Anillos.Bilbo Bolsn, famoso aventurero hobbit y Portador del Anillo nico, llega a los Puertos Grises para embarcar en la nave blanca que parte hacia el oeste. Es aqu donde compone su ltima cancin, en la que reflexiona sobre su marcha de la Tierra Media y la travesa que lo llevar a las Tierras Imperecederas, ms all del ocaso. Conmovedora y lrica, esta cancin expresa tanto el anhelo por levar el ancla en este ltimo viaje como una afectuosa despedida para los amigos que se quedan atrs. Pauline Baynes era la ilustradora predilecta de Tolkien.Las pequeas joyas con las que ilustr esta obra representan el viaje que lleva a los Portadores del Anillo y la compaa de elfos hasta los Puertos Grises, as como el comienzo de la ltima travesa.
