La dcada 19801990 es un espacio de quiebre histrico en Mxico. Aqu finaliz el proyecto de la Revolucin Mexicana, cuando el Estado renunci a seguir desempeando el papel de lder poltico bajo la ideologa de la Revolucin. El proyecto de desarrollo establilizador, que funcion desde los 50 hasta principios de los 80, lleg a su fin. Igualmente, el expansivo sector pblico de la economa fue drsticamente desarticulado. En otro nivel, la dcada 19801990 fue significada por la globalizacin econmica. Se constituyeron nuevas regiones econmicas y polticas; el Tratado de Libre Comercio de Norteamrica (TLCAN) entre ellas. En este contexto, la vida del sindicalismo result fuertemente limitada y tiene problemas para enfrentar los cambios econmicos y polticos de Mxico; el corporativismo sindical se ha debilitado y carece de un proyecto para renovar al sindicalismo. Este libro est dirigido a los acadmicos, a los sindicalistas y a los funcionarios vinculados, para construir perspectivas que permitan entender al sindicalismo mexicano y ubicarlo en el entorno mundial.
