Se presentan algunos resultados de un estudio sistmico de la nocin de linealidad, que comprende aspectos de corte: cognitivo, histricoepistemolgico, sociocultural y didctico. La nocin de linealidad es un concepto articulador de la matemtica escolar desde la educacin bsica hasta la educacin superior, debido a su estadio metamatemtico. Se identific a la ratio mutabilitas constant como una idea germinal que emerge a partir de los significados de la nocin de linealidad desde civilizaciones antiguas, hasta la aparicin del lgebra lineal en el siglo XIX. Se resalta la existencia de una articulacin conceptual entre el razonamiento multiplicativo, el razonamiento proporcional y los significados de la nocin de linealidad. A partir del anlisis de libros de texto, se examina el estatus didctico de: conceptos, definiciones y usos vinculados a las nociones de proporcionalidad y linealidad, en base a las nociones protomatemticas, paramatemticas, matemticas y metamatemticas. Los resultados aportan elementos para la construccin de un discurso didctico congruente y articulado, de la matemtica escolar.
