Actualmente el modelo de enseanza que se propone a nivel nacional es el aprendizaje basado en competencias.Esto implica que los programas de enseanza de ingls deben tener como objetivo lograr que los alumnos desarrollen la acompetencia comunicativa, pero los maestros de lenguas deben saber que la competencia comunicativa engloba el promover el desarrollo de las competencias lingstica, sociolingstica y pragmtica. Esta investigacin hace un anlisis de cmo se promueve el desarrollo de la competencia pragmtica en libros de texto que se utilizan actualmente para ensear ingls en diferentes preparatorias en Mxico y las implicaciones que puede tener para el xito del nuevo programa basado en competencias.
