Los Sistemas de Gestin Ambiental pueden mejorar el desempeo ambiental de las empresas y surgen por motivaciones diversas tales como presin de las autoridades y busqueda de imagen, innovacin y eficiencia. La Produccin Ms Limpia (P+L) puede reducir insumos y desechos, y mejorar el funcionamiento, economa y competitividad de la empresa y, sin embargo, muy pocas PYMES la implementan. La Investigacin recogi y analiz la experiencia de un Proyecto Demostrativo del Centro Mexicano para la Produccin Ms Limpia(CMP+L)para siete fundidoras (PYMESF)en 1997, en el corredor industrial MxicoQuertaroSan Luis Potos. Estos Proyectos son uno de los principales instrumentos de la difusin de la P+L en Mxico que,sin embargo,ha resultado insuficiente para promover la implantacin general de este sistema. Nuestro propsito fu encontrar las causas de este fenmeno.La recoleccin de datos se bas en entrevistas a profundiddad efectuadas a los empresarios de las PYMESF, a expertos que participaron en el Proyecto Demostrativo de P+L, y en la observacin directa a las fundidoras.
