D'Ors traza, en un estilo breve, irnico y preciso, una caricatura genial y profunda de cada personaje, en las que no busca tanto retratar modelos como recrearlos, 'descubrirlos' activamente y descubrirse a s mismo en ellos: 'La clave de la realidad, que es histrica, est en la cultura; la cultura est en sus figuras; al seleccionar esas figuras, uno construye la suya propia'.
