L'an 1 de la rvolution russe (paru en France en 1930, et rdit dans la ' Petite collection Maspero ' en 1971) est la fois le premier livre de Victor Serge et la premire histoire de cet vnement crucial paratre en France. crit Leningrad entre 1925 et 1928 au moment o Serge, dissident au sein du Parti communiste, se battait contre le stalinisme envahissant, L'An 1 a t publi peu aprs l'exclusion et l'arrestation de son auteur. Grce ses qualits narratives et la vigueur de son analyse, ce livre propose une fresque passionnante des luttes hroques des bolcheviks en 1917. Mais il constitue aussi un document exceptionnel pour nous permettre de saisir ' comment ceux qui ont fait la rvolution la comprenaient et la comprennent '. Cette nouvelle dition comporte une remarquable postface, crite en 1947, o Serge dresse un bilan critique du bolchevisme. crit quelques semaines avant la mort de son auteur, ce textecl reprsente son testament politique et semble rpondre par avance au Livre noir du communisme (Laffont, 1998). Une prface de Wilebaldo Solano, rvolutionnaire antistalinien espagnol qui fut l'ami de Serge, ancien dirigeant du POUM et coscnariste du film de Ken Loach , Land and Freedom, claire les enjeux de cette relecture.
