Una evaluacin de riesgo a la salud (ERS) es un estudio tcnico que, basado en la informacin cientfica disponible sobre la peligrosidad de una o ms sustancias presentes en el ambiente, analiza la posibilidad que organismos expuestos (humanos o biota) sufran efectos negativos para la salud como resultado de ese contacto. En esta obra se estudia las posibilidades que ofreceran la integracin de las ERS a los Sistemas de informacin Geogrfica para constituir herramientas de evaluacin de la calidad del agua. Sobre la base de informacin sobre sustancias txicas en el agua subterrnea que se usa para bebida, se plantean las bases para desarrollar ERS probabilsticas georreferenciadas que permitan integrar la distribucin espacial del riesgo con otras capas de informacin (poblacin, rea cubierta, ubicacin de fuentes de contaminacin, plumas contaminantes, etc.). Luego de presentar la metodologa de manera detallada, que se basa en datos de nitratos y fluoruros en aguas subterrneas de la ciudad de Azul, provincia de Buenos Aires, Argentina, se brindan ejemplos de aplicaciones particulares mostrando su utilidad para la gestin del territorio y sus recursos hdricos.
