En el presente libro se estudia, desde un enfoque intra e interdisciplinario, el tema de las voces marginadas y el saber en la obra potica de Sor Juana Ins de la Cruz (16511695), en tres comedias de Juan Ruiz de Alarcn (15801639), y en el Paraso occidental y dos textos documentales, de Carlos de Sigenza y Gngora (16451700). Entre los especialistas consultados figuran Mariano Picn Salas, Pedro Henrquez Urea, Marcelino Menndez y Pelayo, Fernando Ortiz, Octavio Paz, Alejo Carpentier, Jean Franco, J. M. Briceo Guerrero y Michel Foucault, ms otros autores dedicados al campo de la literatura novohispana. La lectura del corpus literario seleccionado arroja como saldo el descubrimiento de personajes marginados (subordinados) a ciertas esferas de poder (el mundo social, el mundo poltico y el mundo religioso), que son emblemticos de su momento pero tambin de la situacin anloga en que se hallan otros personajes de nuestra sociedad contempornea, quienes inspiraron y continan inspirando a escritores sensibilizados con los problemas sociales vividos por las naciones latinoamericanas, desde sus momentos fundacionales.
