Conservation. The Last Water Hole in the West is the history of the largest transmountain diversion project ever built the ColoradoBig Thompson (CBT) designed to bring Colorado River water through a thriteenmile tunnel under the Continental Divide to farmers in the South Platte River basin. The book also offers a detailed exploration of the Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District (NCWCD), the agency created to oversee the design, construction, water delivery, and payment of the monumental CBT.

I really enjoyed this book! The insights on the Colorado-Big Thompson Project are fascinating, especially how it shaped northern Colorado's water management. It’s a great mix of history and environmental science that kept me engaged throughout.

A Bit Dry but Useful Information
I picked this up hoping for a thrilling read, but it was more of a textbook. Still, the factual content about the Northern Colorado water issues is necessary. It just took some effort to get through it all.

Interesting but Dense at Times
This book offers a lot of information about the water conservancy district and its projects, but I found some parts hard to get through due to technical jargon. Still a solid read for anyone interested in Colorado’s water history.
