Mathilde fut d'abord un roman, puis devint par la suite un ballet. La mort subite, le journal intime de mon pre entrecrois au mien, n'est en fait que la suite de Mathilde, ou peuttre son prlude, puisque pour moi la chronologie n'existe pas. Ces deux textes sont deux ballets d'amour, d'espoir et de joie. Et prcisment en ce qui concerne les ballets, je n'cris jamais d'arguments au pralable. La musique me dirige, les corps m'inspirent et soit au studio, soit sur la scne des formes surgissent, des relations se nouent, le ballet prend sa vie de chair et de son. Bien aprs, l'uvre termine, j'cris un texte qui paraphrase le mouvement par un autre 'ballets de mots' .
