L'histoire de Mlusine appartient au folklore universel et s'inscrit dans la ligne des rcits qui mettent en contact le monde des humains et le monde surnaturel travers l'union d'un mortel et d'une fe.Aprs avoir longtemps appartenu la tradition orale, c'est au XIIe sicle que la lgende fait son entre en littrature, tandis que la fe devient l'anctre mythique des Lusignan au dbut du XIVe sicle, sous la plume de Pierre de Bressuire.Seul manque ds lors notre lgende le nom de la fe, apparu un sicle plus tard dans les deux romans franais, le rcit en prose de Jean d'Aras (1393) et le texte en vers de Coudrette (dbut du XVe sicle) : deux histoires crites la gloire du lignage des Lusignan autrefois prestigieux, sur fond de guerre francoanglaise et de reconqute du Poitou par le duc de Berry, et imprgnes du mythe de la croisade, deux contes de fes vous, de sicle en sicle, un succs ininterrompu.
