In Learn to Program Visual Basic Databases, John Smiley provides a solid foundation for the beginning or intermediate user interested in working with database theory and uses this knowledge to create a fully databaseenabled Visual Basic application. Smileys simple, conversational style is entertaining even when he is explaining the most difficult programming principles. The book is classroombased, and his question and answer format often addresses commonlyasked student queries. Smiley also provides stepbystep instructions for each exercise and handy online references for more information.

I thought this book would be more hands-on with exercises, but it mostly explains concepts. It's okay, but I was hoping for more practical examples to work through. It's still useful if you're looking for theory!

Great for beginners!
I picked up 'Learn to Program Databases with Visual Basic' to help get my feet wet in coding. The examples are clear, and the way it breaks down the concepts makes them easy to grasp. I've been able to apply what I learned to my projects at work already!

Decent book for learning databases
'Learn to Program Databases with Visual Basic' is a fair read for anyone starting out. The content is helpful but can drag in sections. I’d say it's a good starting point if you want to build a foundation in database programming.

A few confusing parts
This book has a lot of useful info on database programming, but I found some of the explanations a bit confusing. It took me longer to get through those sections. Still, the Visual Basic examples are pretty solid!

Solid resource for Visual Basic
I've been looking for a way to learn databases with Visual Basic, and this book does a decent job. It's comprehensive but assumes a bit of prior knowledge. Just be prepared to do some extra research on your own!
