In this important new book for pre and inservice teachers, early math experts Douglas Clements and Julie Sarama show how learning trajectories help teachers become more effective professionals. By opening up new windows to seeing young children and the inherent delight and curiosity behind their mathematical reasoning, learning trajectories ultimately make teaching more joyous. They help teachers understand the varying level of knowledge and thinking of their classes and the individuals within them as key in serving the needs of all children. In straightforward, nononsense language, this book summarizes what is known about how children learn mathematics, and how to build on what they know to realize more effective teaching practice. It will help teachers understand the learning trajectories of early mathematics and become quintessential professionals.

I really enjoy this book! It’s packed with useful insights into how kids learn math. I’ve been able to apply the strategies directly to my lesson planning. A good addition to my teaching library!

A bit too academic for me
I was looking for something more straightforward and hands-on. This book dives deep into the learning trajectories but feels more like a textbook. It’s interesting, just not super useful for my teaching needs.

Decent read, but dense
I’ve read a lot about teaching math and found this one to be quite dense. It has great information, but it took me a while to really digest the concepts. Still, I learned a lot!
