La legitimacin de conocimientos tradicionales se ha dado desde distintos mbitos y con finalidades diversas. En este trabajo, se parte de un anlisis historiogrfico de fuentes y se busca el sostn en las premisas tericas del pluralismo epistemolgico y de los Estudios Culturales de la Ciencia, para corroborar la validez de un sistema de creencias y saberes curativosalimentarios de los nahuas prehispnicos del altiplano central mexicano. La teora curativaalimentaria, conocimiento legtimo y eficaz, fue relegada a raz de la inconmensurabilidad que sucedi posterior a la Conquista al no ser considerada una competidora genuina de la teora mdica hegemnica. A pesar de ese antecedente, la ticotl se fue sincretizando con otras prcticas y sigui vigente durante la colonia entre legos y expertos. Parte de esa continuidad llega hasta nuestros das y los alimentos curativos nahuas se convierten en sustrato fundamental de las prcticas biotecnolgicas contemporneas, al hallar en ellos las propiedades necesarias para conceptualizarlos como nutracuticos y otorgarles un papel relevante en los modelos preventivos de salud.
