Qu relacin existe entre el lenguaje y el mundo representado o referido? ste es uno, sino el ms importante, de los interrogantes que atraviesa el presente ensayo y que se intenta responder a partir del anlisis y la reflexin de La Ciudad Ausente del escritor argentino Ricardo Piglia. En tal sentido, el trabajo aborda el problema de la representacin a la luz de la figura de enunciador construido en la novela habida cuenta de que dicho sujeto textual se ubica en un espacio de tensiones no resueltas entre diferentes concepciones del lenguaje caso Peirce, Rorty, Putnam, Vern, entre otros y sus vnculos con el referente, al tiempo que se posiciona tambin en una genealoga que lo asocia con Macedonio Fernndez y James Joyce. En conjunto, estas operaciones tienen que ver con un movimiento del enunciador construido por Piglia en la ficcin orientado a intervenir en la discusin en torno a la problemtica de la representacin y a las relaciones tensivas que existen entre el lenguaje y el orden de los cuerpos.
