Dieser anfangs mit viel Energie betriebene Familienkult wurde schon am Ende des 10. Jahrhunderts vom Konigshaus vernachlassigt, das seine Legitimitat nun auf andere Weise begrundete. In der hagiographischen Sammlung fallen zwei bemerkenswerte, sich widersprechende Texte auf das Epitaphium Adelheide des Odilo von Cluny und die vita Mahthildis posterior , die jedoch in einem wichtigen Punkt ubereinstimmen: Sie erklaren eheliches Familienleben und christliche Tugenden, Konigswurde und Heiligenstatus fur durchaus miteinander vereinbar. Es entsteht der neue, autonome Typus der heiligen Konigin, der die etwas spater folgende hagiographische Schopfung des rex confessor ankundigt. In seiner Veroffentlichung ermittelt Patrick Corbet die politische Tragweite des ottonischen Familienkultes, ordnet die vorhandenen Texte im Rahmen der Entwicklung des mittelalterlichen Heiligenideals neu ein und hebt erneut die herausragende Stellung der Frau in der ottonischen Aristokratie hervor. Ein Register erschliesst das Werk.
