Und das obwohl das Lesen nicht nur als unverzichtbare Schlsselqualifikation gilt, um am gesellschaftlichen, kulturellen und wirtschaftlichen Leben teilnehmen zu knnen, ferner leisten Bcher auch einen wichtigen Beitrag zur Persnlichkeitsentwicklung eines Kindes. Das erste Kapitel gibt zunchst einen berblick zum Thema Sozialisation und legt im zweiten Kapitel den Fokus auf den Prozess der Lesesozialisation. Es wird erlutert, welche Funktionen das Lesen erfllt und welche Rolle die Sozialisationsinstanzen, besonders die Eltern, bei der Lese(r)entwicklung spielen. Denn ob jemand gerne, viel oder kaum liest, ist wesentlich darin begrndet, wie sein Kontakt und Umgang mit dem Medium Buch in der Kindheit verluft. Unter Einbeziehung des Datenmaterials verschiedener aktueller Studien zum Medien, Freizeit und Leseverhalten der jungen Generation soll dann geklrt werden, inwieweit die geuerten Prognosen vom Untergang der deutschen Lesekultur tatschlich gerechtfertigt sind. Das letzte Kapitel widmet sich abschlieend der Thematik Lesefrderung und zeigt unter anderem die verschiedenen Mglichkeiten, Kinder fr das Medium Buch und das Lesen zu begeistern.
