About the Author Franz Kafka, n Prague le 3 juillet 1883 d'une famille juive, a fait ses tudes au lyce allemand de Prague de 1893 1901, puis l'Universit allemande. En 1907 il entre dans une compagnie d'assurances. Son exprience professionnelle jouera un rle capital dans la vision du monde social que son oeuvre reflte avec la plus extrme prcision. En 1912 il rencontre Felice Bauer, avec qui il se fiance deux fois et rompt dfinitivement en 1917. C'est l'anne o sa tuberculose pulmonaire est diagnostique. En 1923, au cours de vacances au bord de la Baltique, il fait la connaissance de Dora Dymant et s'installe avec elle Berlin. Atteint de laryngite tuberculeuse, il est transport, aprs deux sjours dans des hpitaux de Vienne, au sanatorium de Kierling, o il meurt le 3 juin 1924.
