Um die Verknpfung von Gewalt und Liebe im 'Findling' besser erfassen zu knnen, mssen die Begriffe 'Liebe' und 'Gewalt' differenziert werden. Gewalt bei Heinrich von Kleist bedeutet nicht ausschlielich physische Gewalt, sondern kann in vielerlei Formen auftreten ( Obwohl nach Gerhard Gnner Kleists Werke beispielhaft fr den literarischen Umgang mit 'Gewalt' stehen knnten und durchaus den Vorstellungen der herkmmlichen Gewaltansicht entspricht1 ). Alle Formen von Gewalt entspringen dem Zwang, sich gesellschaftskonform zu verhalten, Gewalt stellt einen Ausbruch aus diesem Konformismus dar. Gewalt bei Kleist, und dies wird im Findling deutlich, kann auch als Produkt einer Identittsfindung stehen. So sucht Nicolo trotz seiner Aufnahme in die Familie Piachi seine wahre Identitt. Ginge es nach dem 'Findling', so wre diese an Elvires Seite. Doch diese Position ist schon durch den alten Piachi besetzt. So mu der Findling ausweichen, zu Xaviera Tartini, doch auch diese kann ihm nur als Ersatzbefriedigung dienen. Im Verlauf der Novelle schaukelt die Gewalt zwischen Nicolo und Piachi hoch, es kommt zu jenem grausamen Ende, da kein Mitglied der Familie lebend bersteht. Im Laufe der Novelle wandelt sich Gewalt von einer rein psychischen Komponente zur physischen Handlung, die ihr Ende in der bersprungsreaktion Piachis findet. Die Grausamkeiten, die in dieser Novelle sichtbar werden, sind initiiert durch persnlichen Mangel aller beteiligten Personen, der sich auf andere Personen bertrgt, und somit auf diese Gewalt ausbt.
