In writing about sixteenthcentury France, Lucien Febvre looked for those changes in human consciousness that explain the process of civilizationthe most specific and tangible examples of mens experience, the most vivid details of their daily lives. These essays, written at the height of Febvres powers and sensitively edited and translated by Marian Rothstein, are the most lucid, evocative, and accessible examples of his art.

Beautifully Illustrated but Flawed
The illustrations in Life in Renaissance France are absolutely gorgeous, but I was a little disappointed with the binding. It feels cheap and the pages started to come loose after just a few readings. Such a shame, because the content is great!
