El presente libro se inscribe en los encuentros literarios anuales que la Escuela Julin Besteiro de la Unin General de Trabajadores y el Instituto de Formacin y Estudios Sociales, conjuntamente con la Universidad Autnoma de Madrid, vienen promoviendo desde el ao 1998. En esta ocasin, Literatura y compromiso social, celebrado durante el ao 2000, recoge las principales aportaciones del mundo de la poltica (Santiago Carrillo, Alfonso Guerra, scar Lafontaine, Joaqun Leguina), de la creacin literaria (Felipe Bentez Reyes, Jos Manuel Caballero Bonald, Luis Garca Montero, Almudena Grandes, Jos Saramago, Francisco Umbral) y del compromiso con el mundo del trabajo (Cndido Mndez, Nicols Redondo). Convergen as, la creacin literaria, el pensamiento y la accin poltica y social analizando en comn las aspiraciones y dificultades que conforman la lucha por una sociedad con mayor cohesin econmica y social, cada da ms libre, diversa, pacfica e igualitaria. La poesa no es slo un mtodo, o puede no ser slo un mtodo para ordenar la sensibilidad, sino tambin un mtodo para desarrollar una ideologa con la que afrontar dignamente la vida, un modo de reflejar una visin del mundo, ofrecer una interpretacin de la realidad, ofrecer una revisin de la realidad.
