Long Gun occurs during the last days of New Mexico as a province of Mexico. The provincial governor, Manuel Armijo, has closed the Santa Fe Trail to further commerce with the United States. This has meant that all the furs gathered by American trappers and traders cannot be moved. Celia Arnaud, heiress of the Arnaud Agency, learns that there is only one man who can get her companys furs through to St. Louis, Washakie Winters. He has an unsavory reputation and is impossible to locate, but Celia Arnaud intends to do just that. Traitor Town takes place during the war itself, with General Kearnys Army of the West having taken Las Vegas and poised now to invade Santa Fe. Reinforcements from Mexico to defend the city are supposed to be on the way, but it is rumored that they have been defeated by the Americans. Tony Ferrar is selected to venture behind American lines for proof of the defeat. But the resistance does not want that proof will cause the governor to make a peaceful surrender. Blood Star over Sant Fe takes place shortly after the end of the war. Paul Trent is a horse breeder who has sold out and intends to leave Santa Fe, However, he stumbles upon the plot of an insurgency that places his life in danger from the insurgents who do not want their plans made known. Death Song for Santa Fe Rebels is the story of Corday Vidal, presumably a wandering minstrel wanted by the occupying American Army, who conspires with the opposition to the American presence to learn why it is that freight wagon trains and whole troops of American soldiers have been disappearing in Northern New Mexico.
