Tintn le acompaa hasta la tumba y all descubre los misteriosos cigarros, que esconden algo ms que tabaco. Entonces es secuestrado y abandonado en el mar, pero se salva y desembarca en Arabia. Despus de numerosas peripecias va a parar a la India, donde se aloja en casa del Maharaj de Rawhajpurtalah. Aparecen aqu personajes que luego encontraremos de nuevo: los inefables policas Hernndez y Fernndez, el malvado Rastapopoulos y el peculiar Oliveira de Salazar. Los cigarros del Faran empiezan a aparecer en Le petit Vingtime el 8 de diciembre de 1932. Era la poca en que la noticia de la maldicin de la tumba de Tutankamon ocupaba muchas planas de los peridicos sensacionalistas. Este tema interes a Herg de tal forma que aos ms tarde lo volvi a plantear en Las 7 bolas de cristal.
