En el presente trabajo abordo la atencin a algunos problemas de salud entre los otomes originarios de Santiago Mexquititln, municipio de Amealco, Quertaro. Las enfermedades incluidas son aquellas en cuyo tratamiento y atencin intervienen los recursos teraputicos desconocidos por la biomedicina. Parto del supuesto de que todo proceso mrbido es representado a partir del contexto cultural en el que se genera y, por ende, la etiologa de la enfermedad se encuentra estrechamente vinculada con los recursos considerados como idneos para enfrentarla. Dicho de otro modo, considero que la concepcin de la enfermedad as como las estrategias teraputicas empleadas para combatirlas estn estrechamente vinculadas con la cosmovisin de cada grupo humano. Por tanto, pretendo responder a la siguiente pregunta: Qu sucede cuando un individuo padece alguna enfermedad fuera de su localidad de origen? Es decir, lejos de los terapeutas que comparten la misma concepcin de la enfermedad.
