Este libro presenta un anlisis paremiolgico contrastivo entre la novela Don Quijote de la Mancha de Miguel de Cervantes y la primera traduccin completa en lengua alemana realizada por Ludwig Tieck entre los aos 1799 y 1801. El estudio se presenta en tres partes, en la primera de ellas, por un lado, se delimita el concepto de refrn para diferenciarlo de otras categoras paremiolgicas, exponiendo sus caractersticas lingsticas y, por otro, se ofrece una tipologa de los refranes de El Quijote; en la segunda se muestra a Tieck como traductor y se expone su versin de la novela cervantina y en la tercera se lleva a cabo un anlisis sobre un corpus seleccionado de 155 refranes en el que se abarca una doble perspectiva intrnseca y extrnseca, determinando la tipologa de los refranes, su funcin en el discurrir conversacional, su relacin sintctica con el contexto y su papel como recurso literario dentro de la novela. El objetivo principal es el de exponer los recursos utilizados por Tieck para verter estos refranes en su traduccin, atendiendo en todo momento a la idea propia de un hombre del Romanticismo alemn de ser lo ms fiel posible al original que se traduce.
