La desigualdad de gnero es un fenmeno que trasciende fronteras, culturas y religiones, manifestndose an ms en la actual situacin de la participacin poltica de las mujeres. El caso de Guatemala no es la excepcin, los elementos que caracterizan la participacin poltica de las mujeres en el pas estn ligados a los siguientes factores: 1. La participacin en los espacios de poder formal como un derecho incompleto; 2. La descentralizacin como una oportunidad ambigua para las mujeres; y 3. La participacin poltica y las mujeres indgenas como la expresin de una triple desigualdad. As, el presente estudio tiene como objetivo, observar la participacin poltica y presencia de la mujer en los cargos de gobierno local en Guatemala y determinar Qu factores son limitadores o bien, promotores de la participacin poltica de las mujeres en Guatemala? Teniendo como referencia principal a los partidos polticos y los resultados del proceso electoral 2007. La intencin del estudio ha sido as, clarificar tanto los obstculos, as como los incentivos a la participacin poltica de las mujeres, como un referente comparativo sobre sus avances o bien, retrocesos.
