Este trabajo constituye un nuevo aporte al anlisis de la magnitud, evolucin y naturaleza del comercio intraindustrial (CII) uruguayo en 19932000. Se aplicaron indicadores de CII sobre los datos de comercio manufacturero utilizando diferentes niveles de agregacin y dos tipos de metodologas complementarias: de Grubel y Lloyd (GL, 1975) y de Fontagn y Freudenberg (1997) del CEPII. El anlisis realizado al mximo nivel de desagregacin posible a 10 dgitos de la nomenclatura arancelaria uruguaya siguiendo la nueva metodologa propuesta por el CEPII, permiti clasificar los flujos de comercio uruguayo con Argentina y Brasil en: comercio en dos vas (CDV) de productos similares (horizontalmente diferenciados), CDV de productos verticalmente diferenciados distinguiendo entre alta y baja calidad, y comercio en una va. Los resultados obtenidos indicaron que el CII es relevante con Argentina y en menor medida con Brasil. En relacin a la evolucin del CII no se constat una tendencia clara del mismo pero s se evidenci su vinculacin con el comportamiento del sector automotor destacndose la persistencia del CDV vertical de alta calidad tanto con Argentina como con Brasil.
