In the successful tradition of Thomas Cahills modernday classic, How the Irish Saved Civilization, here is an authoritative and completely engaging onevolume account of Irish history by County Limerick native, gifted storyteller, and bestselling author Malachy McCourt. Its pages are populated with figures from myth, legend, ancient history, and current events, from Cu Chulainn and Brian Boru to Oliver Cromwell, James Joyce, Lady Gregory, Gerry Adams, and Sinead OConnorsome beloved, some controversial, but all with an undeniable influence on the course of Irish history and in turn, the history of the modern world. McCourt proves an irresistible guide on this vivid tour through the colorful and turbulent history of the Emerald Isle, from the Celtic settlements, through Viking and British occupations, modern troubles and struggle for independence. He also offers fresh insights on the countrys cultural contributions to folklore, literature, art, music, and cuisine.

I was excited to read this, but the book arrived with some pages crumpled, which was a letdown. The content seems promising, but I haven't gotten far because of the quality issue. Really hope my next order is better!

A Must-Read for History Buffs
Malachy McCourt's take on Ireland's history is captivating! I bought this book for my dad who loves history, and he couldn’t put it down. McCourt's storytelling really brings the events to life, making it a joy to read.

Interesting but a Bit Lengthy
I found this history of Ireland well-researched, but it sometimes felt dragged out. McCourt certainly dives deep into the details, which is great for learning, but I prefer a quicker read. Still, it’s good for those who want a thorough exploration.
