Management of the music collection entails: Selection, Acquisition, Cataloguing, Classification, storage, Conservation, Preservation, retrieval, legal and other policy issues. The study of music relies on the use of the different formats of music (music scores, books/journals and sound recordings). Increase in study programmes in music necessitates building and managing music collections. However, a number of factors hinder effective management of music collections in academic libraries. The author deals with challenges and prospects of managing music collections in an academic library. It is hoped that this book will provide guidance to management of music collections, stimulate a desire for further research into the management of the music collections in Uganda as well as bridging the existing information gap in the training needs of library and information profession.
