El manejo ecolgico del cultivo de frijol se fundamenta en los principios ecolgicos que son biodiversos, resilientes, eficientes energticamente, socialmente justos y constituyen la base de una estrategia energtica y productiva fuertemente vinculada a la soberana alimentaria. Este proyecto se realiz en la regin Fronteriza y Centro de Chiapas. Se inici en julio de 2007 a febrero de 2009, se utiliz la metodologa participativa enfocada al manejo ecolgico del cultivo de frijol, que consisti en buscar a los productores en su lugar de origen y capacitarlos. Asimismo el trabajo de campo comenz con el establecimiento de las parcelas, con una dimensin de 2 500 m2, en donde se manejaron de tres formas: a) una parcela manejada tradicionalmente que sirvi de testigo; b) la segunda parcela fue la tratada con agroqumicos; c)la tercera parcela manejada orgnicamente; se utilizaron abonos orgnicos fermentados tipo Bocashi, biofertilizantes foliares, manejo ecolgico de plagas, enfermedades y malezas, micronutrimentos (boro, zinc, magnesio, hierro), caldo bordels e insecticidas botnicos. stas se sembraron en sistemas de policultivos mazfrijol con semillas criollas.
