La polilla del tomate es una plaga de origen americano que en la actualidad posee una amplia distribucin mundial. Es considerada como una de las ms dainas para este cultivo debido a que su estado larval destruye el mesfilo foliar, barrena brotes y/o perfora frutos. Ante las elevadas infestaciones y sus consecuentes prdidas econmicas, los productores se ven obligados a intensificar los tratamientos fitosanitarios utilizando los ms variados plaguicidas y elevando las dosis y el nmero de aplicaciones recomendadas. Esta prctica no responde a las exigencias de una produccin con bajo nivel de contaminantes y ha trado como consecuencia la aparicin de resistencia. Por estas razones es necesario encontrar alternativas de control "amigables" con el ambiente. En este sentido, el manejo integrado de plagas se basa en la combinacin de dos o ms tcticas seleccionadas bajo criterios ecolgicos y socioeconmicos. En los presentes estudios se delinean pautas para el manejo integrado de la polilla del tomate a travs del muestreo de la plaga, la utilizacin de parasitoides ofagos y el empleo de insecticidas selectivos.
