Esta nueva edicin del manual Identificacin y Diagnstico de Actinomicetos Patgenos, usado internacionalmente como texto de referencia en el laboratorio clnico para el estudio de los actinomicetales patgenos, como en las ediciones anteriores, resulta del esfuerzo que en forma conjunta realizan los profesoresinvestigadores del Grupo Internacional de Investigaciones sobre los Actinomicetales Patgenos(GIIAP). Este grupo se constituy en el ao 1980, con motivo del primer curso internacional sobre actinomicetales, que fue dictado en la Universidad de Los Andes, Mrida, Venezuela y fue durante la realizacin de este curso, cuando se decidi escribir un libro de texto en espaol que pudiera ser utilizado durante los siguientes talleres. Estos cursos de carcter internacional fueron dictados en Mrida (19801990) y en la Universidad Autnoma Metropolitana Xochimilco, Mxico, (19901996) como resultado de estos cursos se presenta hoy la octava edicin del manual, edicin la cual constituye un esfuerzo conjunto de la Universidad de Los Andes y de la Universidad Autnoma Metropolitana Xochimilco de Mxico.
