This pleasant but predictable story is similar to Peter Spier's Bored, Nothing to Do (Doubleday, 1978) in its theme, but Spier tells his story more through his illustrative tableaux than his text. Byrd's description of the activities Marcella dislikes and then likes is a bit belabored and wordy, but his pictures are charming. Filled with details, these gently colored scenes are filled with activity and portray Marcella as a childlike and expressive feline. This cat's tale is far easier to read than Nancy Winslow Parker's story Puddums: the Cathcarts' Orange Cat (Atheneum, 1980) or Kathleen Hale's Orlando the Marmlade Cat: the Frisky Housewife (Merrimack, 1979).
