This book is about mares, but it's about women, too. It's about the essence of being female. Dealing with a mare can be frustrating, and the author has compiled 50 stories with help and inspiration. Learn about Territorial Mares from Julie Goodnight and Gender Training from Dr. Ron Meredith.and share the experiences of 36 other mare owners. Take a delightful look at the special qualities of mares who have touched their owners' hearts! Glimpse treasured moments between horse and human as they learn together and from each other, sharing the struggle and joy of building trust, respect, good communication and mutual dependence. Realize the profound love that can exist between two separate beings. From joy of birth to anguish of loss, there is a source of inspiration, love and healing in soulful eyes and hooves that fly! Betsy Kelleher's first riding horse was a Percheron mare from her grandfather's work team on an Iowa farm. Her second mare started out as a son's 4H project and resulted in Betsy's first book, 'Sometimes a Woman Needs a Horse!' Betsy has owned seven mares and eight geldings over 30 years. She and her husband now own two gaited mares and two geldings and enjoy trail riding. Betsy has shown 'Walker's Velvet Queen' in local gaited classes. Since December of 1995, she has written a monthly column for the Illinois Horse Network newspaper. Under the heading, Sometimes God Uses Horses, each column deals with a horserelated issue and a spiritual application. Her website, www.goduseshorses.com, shares her columns, horse photos and information about her books.
