American theatre pioneer Margo Jones established the first modern professional resident theatre in the U.S. in Dallas in 1947 the model for more than 450 such theatres in the country today. Margo was a mentor to playwrights William Inge, Horton Foote, Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee, as well as Tennessee Williams, whose The Glass Menagerie she codirected in its first Broadway production.
