Marguerite Yourcenar fue una escritora polifactica, prolfica y excepcional. Tambin practic la traduccin, que consideraba un gnero tan creativo como la escritura. Su traduccin de los poemas de Kavafis fue la que introdujo al poeta de Alejandra en Francia, la nica llevada a cabo por una mujer y la nica que traslad la poesa al gnero literario prosa. El contacto con Kavafis est en la base de algunos de sus protagonistas ms significativos y de la tica que les sostiene.
