Marriage laws are rapidly changing in the United States. The underlying public sentiment that has allowed for this, however, has evolved more gradually. While the Bible frequently compares the love of God for his people to marriage, our culture's redefinition of marriage presents a serious problem. If we redefine and redesign marriage, what will that do to people's ability to comprehend what the Bible says? Lee contends that it may undermine that very ability. He makes the case that the Bible speaks consistently on the main aspects of this subject. Churches appear to be divided right down the middle. Those churches that tend to drift with society must face the Biblical issues squarely. Those churches that confuse God's law and grace merely end up moralizing. He insists that the call of God's grace in Christ puts a burden on the believer to honor marriage as God designed it. Marriage is too important to dismiss the Bible's clear message with platitudes and politically motivated talk. On the one hand, Christians should not be surprised when the surrounding culture migrates away from God's standards. The Bible warns that this will happen. On the other hand, the church is called to share the truths of judgment and mercy in a respectful manner. This book is a call for all who name Jesus Christ as Savior to follow him more deeply into his inspired word in Scripture. John William Lee, a Lutheran pastor, is a native of Washington State. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Music from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma and a Master of Divinity degree from Luther Seminary, St. Paul, Minnesota. He has served parishes in Montana and Seattle and is currently serving in North Dakota. He is married and has two grown children and five grandchildren.
