Als solche wird sie in diesem Buche auch dargestellt. Das mindert ihren Wert schon deshalb nicht, weil hier ihr Ursprung sowie der Rechtsgrund fiir ihre Stellung im Kulturganzen liegt. Der Chemiker z. B. bestimmt die Dichte von wasserigen Losungen bei verschiedenen Konzentrationen und findet so etwa bei einer KJLosung die Dichte 1,076 bei der Konzentration von 10%, dann 1,273 bei 30% Konzentration und schlieBlich 1,731 bei 60%. Vergleicht er diese Resultate, so findet er, daB sich die Dichte andert, so oft er die Konzentration andert. GroBen, die verschiedene Werte annehmen, nennt man veranderliche (variable) GroBen. Auch der Physiker findet, wenn er die Lange eines Metallstabes bei verschiedenen Temperaturen miBt, daB Lange und Temperatur veranderliche GroBen sind, die in gesetzmaBiger Weise zusammenhangen. Bestimmten Temperaturen entsprechen bestimmte Langen des Stabes und umgekehrt. Der Ingenieur, der die Verkiirzung eines elastischen Korpers bei verschiedenen Drucken bestimmt, registriert den Zusammenhang der beiden Veranderlichen Verkiirzung und Druck.
