Sie ist fest etabliert in der modernen Ethik und wird nach wie vor in den politischen Debatten aufgegriffen, wenngleich meist fr 'polemische Zwecke' (Schluchter 1988: 337); dabei mchte freilich jeder Verantwortungsethiker sein, und Weber selbst scheint ja die Verantwortungsethik der Gesinnungsethik vorgezogen zu haben. Aber so einfach liegen die Verhltnisse nicht. Denn weder ist nach Weber 'Gesinnungsethik mit Verantwortungslosigkeit [noch] Verantwortungsethik mit Gesinnungslosigkeit identisch' (PaB, 70). Die beiden Ethiken verkrpern vielmehr zwei 'grundverschiedene, unaustragbar gegenstzliche' (ebd.) Maximen des Handelns. Ziel dieser Untersuchung ist zum einen das vertiefte Verstndnis der beiden Ethiken, d.h. ihrer Begrndung, ihrer Stellung im Werk von Weber und ihres Verhltnisses zueinander. Zum anderen soll daran anknpfend das Verhltnis von Ethik und Politik (und damit auch der Begriff des Politischen) aufgehellt werden, wie Weber es sah. Die These lautet, dass zwischen Webers Gesinnungs und Verantwortungsethik in der Tat ein 'unaustragbarer' (PaB, 70) Gegensatz besteht, weil die beiden Ethiken in formaler Hinsicht von gleichem ethischen Rang sind, also vollwertige Alternativen darstellen. Die Verantwortungsethik kann dabei nicht am Politischen begrndet werden, und sie darf nicht als Konsequentialismus missverstanden werden. Letztlich kann der angedeutete Vorrang der
