Cet ouvrage, qui reprend l'essentiel du colloque universitaire runi Lyon en novembre 1989 consacr Ren Biot, permet de comprendre comment ' ce rassembleur ' selon Emile Poulat concilia deux proccupations majeures, la mdecine humaine, celle de l'homme matire et esprit, et la mdecine sociale, ouverte tous, mais respectueuse de l'homme. La recherche d'un juste quilibre entre ces deux aspects de la mdecine est encore en devenir.
