En este texto los autores han querido dar a conocer el contexto y estado del conocimiento en el que estn inserto los fallos por fisuracin ocurridos en los pavimentos bituminosos, considerando su gnesis y desarrollo a travs del tiempo. A su vez, se presenta la metodologa y resultados obtenidos en el desarrollo de un nuevo procedimiento de ensayo El Ensayo Fnix que permite evaluar de una manera simple y sencilla, las fases de inicio y propagacin de fisuras que sufren las mezclas bituminosas cuando stas son solicitadas. Adems, se expone el comportamiento a fatiga de las mezclas bituminosas, y sus relaciones con las propiedades mecnicas obtenidas por medio del procedimiento propuesto, estableciendo un mecanismo que permite estimar rpidamente el comportamiento a fatiga de una mezcla bituminosa, a partir de un ensayo ms rpido y econmico, como lo es el ensayo Fnix.
