Eine offizielle Definition von Mediation lautet: Mediation ist ein auergerichtliches interdisziplinres Verfahren der Konfliktbearbeitung, in dem neutrale Dritte die Konfliktbeteiligten darin untersttzen, ihren Streit einvernehmlich zu lsen' (www.infomediation.ch Schweizer Dachverband Mediation). Zu Beginn wird demgem das Thema Konflikte behandelt. Es werden die Ebenen eines Konflikts dargestellt und geschildert, wie diese den Konflikt und die Konfliktbearbeitung beeinflussen. Anschlieend wird aufgezeigt, welche Konfliktformen es gibt und wodurch Konflikte ausgelst werden knnen. In einem weiteren Schritt wird das Konflikteskalationsmodell von Friedrich Glasl vorgestellt. Zum Abschluss des Kapitels wird beschrieben, wie Konflikte in der Mediation gesehen werden und wie diese Sichtweise zur konstruktiven Lsung von Konflikten beitragen kann. Das folgende Kapitel widmet sich der Mediation. Es wird das Konzept der Mediation erlutert und die einzelnen Phasen behandelt. Auerdem werden die Techniken der mediativen Gesprchsfhrung exemplarisch erlutert und die mglichen Ergebnisse einer Mediation vorgestellt. Im Weiteren wird Mediation als ein Prozess des Lernens und der Weiterentwicklung konzipiert und auf die nachhaltige Wirkung von Mediation hingewiesen. Der dritte Teil der Arbeit befasst sich mit einem speziellen Anwendungsbereich der Mediation der Familienmediation. Nachdem beschrieben wurde wo und wie Familienmediation angewendet werden kann, wird besonders auf die Beteiligung von Kindern und Jugendlichen eingegangen.
