Forderungen, Sozialstandards in die Welthandelsordnung einzubeziehen, werden gegenwartig in Industrie und Entwicklungslandern kontrovers diskutiert. Die Darstellung untersucht, wie sich die Tatigkeit der Staatengemeinschaft im Rahmen von ILO und WTO auf die Verwirklichung von Sozialstandards in Entwicklungslandern auswirkt. Im einzelnen pruft der Verfasser, welche Chancen und Grenzen ein handelspolitischer Sanktionsmechanismus zur Durchsetzung dieser Rechte aus menschenrechtlicher, verfahrenstechnischer und entwicklungspolitischer Sicht hatte. Dabei wird deutlich, daa ein in der WTOOrdnung enthaltener Sanktionsmechanismus komplexen Zusammenhangen zwischen Freihandel und Wohlfahrt genugen muate. Die verfahrenstechnischen Anforderungen und politischen Erfolgsaussichten einer entsprechenden Regelung werden eingehend erortert. Die rechtswissenschaftliche Arbeit richtet sich sowohl an entwicklungspolitisch als auch an welthandelsrechtlich interessierte Leser und uberzeugt durch ihre methodisch und inhaltlich ungewohnlich weite Perspektive.
