Es wurde ein Geriit mit Proportionalzahlern entwickelt, mit dem das Ionisationsspektrum der Ul trastrahlung in grol3en Hohen aufgenommen werden konnte. Die erzielte Auflosung ermoglichte eine gute Trennung der C1 Teilchen von den einfach geladenen Partikeln. Der Aufstieg fand in SUdDeutschland 0 statt in ca. 49 geomagnetischer Breite nach dem konventionellen zentrischen Dipolsystem. Dank der geringen Steigund Sinkgeschwindigkeit des Ballongespannes konnte die Hohenabhiingigkeit der harten 2 Komponente im Bereich von 990 bis 17, 5 g/ cm atmospharischer Tiefe gemessen werden . Bei ca. 2 80 g/cm liel3 sich ein flaches Maximum mit einer etwa 11, 7fachen Hohe des Bodenwertes feststellen. 2 2 Die a Strahlung konnte zwischen etwa 100 g/ cm und 17, 5 g/ cm untersucht werden. 2 Eine Extrapolation der Intensitat der a Teilchen auf 0 g/ cm fUhrt unter BerUcksichtigung der pa1twahrscheinlichkeiten der schwereren Kerne zu 0,0105 + 0,0008 cm 2 sec lsteradl. FUr die 1 Protonen ergibt sich ein extrapolierter Wert von 0, 083 0, 05 cm 2sec lsterad ohne Beriicksich tigung der Albedo. Ein Vergleich mit iiber NordAmerika bestimmten Energiespektren liil3t eine erheb liche Verschiebung der Absolutintensitiiten erkennen. Die Uber Deutschland gemessenen Werte liegen durchweg niedriger und lassen sich zwanglos erkliiren, wenn man eine Abschneideenergie von 1,30 BeV /Nukl. anstelle von 0,74 BeV/Nukl. fUr die a Teilchen annimmt. Die gemessene Gesamt haufigkeit bzw. die ermittelte Protonenintensitat befindet sich in Ubereinstimmung mit diesen Daten fUr die a Strahlung.
