With its uniform facade of ceramic tiles, this building was the height of modernity when it was constructed. Three decades later it was an eyesore until the architectural firm Ingenhoven & Ingenhoven rescued its walls from the wrecking ball and turned it into a multiuse facility with offices, a theater, a movie house, and retail space. About the Author Olaf Winkler studied architecture in Aachen, Germany and Vienna, Austria. Since graduating in 1997 he has worked as a freelance architecture critic and author for various specialist journals. He is editor of 'polis', journal for architecture and urban developement.
